CHROMOSOME
The significance
of the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNS) as a carrier of information is
undisputed, but overrated. It is not the headquarter which issues its
strict orders but an organ of linkage, which connects and links the
actions of organelles and proteins. The pieces of its information are
therefore dependent on other pieces of information; it controls and is
controlled so to speak... This is a new point of view that reopens doors
in genetics which had been slammed shut before. If the DNS or the
chromosome were a rigid machine, a kind of programmed computer, many
processes of evolution could not be explained! That they are
explainable, that we are able to understand apparently mysterious
processes in the cell, like mitosis and reduplication, is what we will
find out in the chapter CHROMOSOME! |
